1. Overview
LectureMate ("we", "our", or "the app") is a note-taking and study assistant designed for college and university students. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, where it is stored, and the choices you have.
The short version: your notes, recordings and study data live on your device by default. We do not run advertising, we do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
2. Data stored on your device
LectureMate is local-first. Your profile (name and email), onboarding preferences, notes, folders, flashcards, quizzes, quiz results and app settings are stored locally on your device using the operating system’s standard app storage. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it or enable an optional cloud sync feature.
You can delete all locally stored data at any time from Settings → Data → Clear all data. Deleting the app also removes this data.
3. Optional cloud sync
If cloud sync is configured (via a Supabase project you or your institution control), certain study data may be transmitted to and stored on that service so it can be synchronized across your devices. When cloud sync is not configured, the app operates entirely offline in "demo mode" and no study data is transmitted anywhere.
Any cloud-synced data is governed by the privacy practices of the configured provider. We recommend reviewing their policy before enabling sync.
4. Microphone and camera permissions
LectureMate requests microphone access only when you choose to record a lecture, and camera (or photo library) access only when you choose to scan a document. Audio and images you capture are stored on your device and used solely to create your notes.
These permissions are optional. If you deny them, all other features of the app continue to work, and you can grant or revoke access at any time in your device settings.
5. Payments and subscriptions
Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe, Inc. When you subscribe, you interact with Stripe’s secure checkout; LectureMate never sees, stores, or processes your card number. Stripe may collect payment and billing information in accordance with its own Privacy Policy (stripe.com/privacy).
We store only your subscription status (tier, plan and renewal date) locally on your device to unlock Pro features.
6. AI processing
When an AI endpoint is configured, note content you explicitly choose to summarize or convert into flashcards or quizzes may be sent to that endpoint to generate study materials. When no endpoint is configured, all summaries, flashcards and quizzes are generated entirely on-device and nothing is transmitted.
7. Analytics and tracking
LectureMate does not include third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or cross-app tracking. We do not collect usage statistics from your device.
8. Data retention and your rights
Because your data is stored locally under your control, you exercise your rights of access, export, correction and deletion directly: use Settings → Data → Export all data to obtain a complete JSON copy, and Settings → Data → Clear all data to erase everything.
Payment records held by Stripe are retained as required by law and are subject to Stripe’s policies.
9. Children and students
LectureMate is intended for users aged 13 and older, including high school and university students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes to this policy
If we update this Privacy Policy, the revised version will be posted within the app with an updated "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted on the app’s update notes.
